Phosphorus is traditionally known as activator of root activity and blooming of each plant. Phosphor also plays as a component of cell membranes and is a molecular component of the energy carriers ATP and ADP and DNA. Phosphorus further ensures a good metabolism of sugars and the formation of enzymes.

A phosphorus deficiency manifests itself in a slow growth and a purple discoloration of the main veins on the underside of the leaf and purple stems by an anthocyan. Excess of phosphor in a poorly growing plant with an induced zinc deficiency.
